Skyworth 65SUC9300 came in for preventive maintenance. Customer said it was getting old and wanted to make sure it didn't fail.
Smart move. Preventive maintenance on aging HDTV power supplies can save you from a complete failure.
The Inspection
Opened it up. The power supply board looked clean, but I could see the capacitors were getting old. Some were starting to show signs of age.
Checked the capacitor ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). Several were reading high. Not failed yet, but getting close.
Preventive Maintenance Strategy
Rather than wait for failure, I decided to replace all electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board as a preventive measure.
This is a smart approach for aging electronics that you want to keep working reliably.
The Repair
Replaced all electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board: - 6x 1000µF 10V (replaced with 1000µF 16V 105°C) - 4x 470µF 25V (replaced with 470µF 35V 105°C) - 2x 220µF 25V (replaced with 220µF 35V 105°C)
Used Nichicon capacitors. They're more expensive but last much longer.
Testing and Verification
Powered it up. All voltage rails were stable. Let it run for 48 hours under load. No issues.
Checked all voltages with a multimeter. Everything within spec.
Why This Matters
Preventive maintenance extends the life of your TV. By replacing capacitors before they fail, you avoid sudden power supply failure.
This is especially important for Skyworth HDTV models, which are known for power supply issues.
